How to share class notes and organise group projects from your phone
Someone's notes as a photo, the lecturer's PDF on the learning platform, the video that explains it best in the class chat, and the project sources in a doc nobody can find. Come exam time, finding the material takes longer than studying it. Here's how to put it all in one place for the whole class.
What happens in every class chat
- Notes are shared as loose photos that end up in the gallery.
- Important links get buried in the chat between memes and voice notes.
- In group projects, each person keeps sources on their own phone and some go missing.
- The learning platform isn't always great on a phone and only has the teacher's material.
What to include and how to organise it
- One collection per subject with categories by unit or by exam.
- Notes: PDFs, Word files or photos of handwritten notes (saved as documents).
- Videos: the YouTube explanations that work best, which go to the Watch category on their own.
- Exams: past papers and their solutions.
- Group project: a separate collection with sources, the outline and who does what in a note.
Search finds “unit 4” or “derivatives” instantly, and this week's material can be pinned to the top.
Channel or Collaborative: which to use
Channel
one person publishes, the rest view
For the teacher or class rep
- The teacher (or class rep) publishes the official material and nobody else can change it.
- Students always have it up to date on their phone, without logging into the learning platform.
- At the end of the year it's archived and next year starts fresh.
Collaborative
everyone adds and edits
For the class or project team
- The whole class adds their notes and resources to the same collection.
- In a group project, everyone saves their sources there and nothing gets lost.
- No accounts or emails: people join with the link or QR code.
How to set it up in five minutes
- Install Linkalia and create a collection named after the group.
- Create the categories. For example: Unit 1, Unit 2, Exams, Videos, Project.
- Add material with Share from any app: PDFs, Word files, photos, YouTube videos, links or Google Maps locations.
- Tap the collection's name to open Collection info and, under Access, pick Channel or Collaborative.
- In the ⋮ menu, tap Share invite link: send it to the WhatsApp group or show the QR code.
Anyone without the app lands on the page to download it for free; no sign-up or email needed. As admin you see who's in the collection and can remove (and readmit) anyone.
Frequently asked questions
Does everyone need an account?
No. Linkalia doesn't ask you to sign up: each person installs the app and joins with the invite link or QR code.
Can I save photos of my notes?
Yes. Photos, PDFs and Word files are saved as documents inside the collection.
Does it work on iPhone?
For now Linkalia is Android only. For people without it, Pro lets you export a collection as a web page that opens in any browser.
