How to deliver your course material to your students' phones
You teach design, languages, cooking or marketing. After each session you email the slides, send the tool link on WhatsApp and the exercise somewhere else. By week three, half the class can't find the template. Here's how to deliver material so it doesn't get lost.
What to include and how to organise it
- One category per module or session: “Module 1 — Basics”, “Module 2 — Prototyping”…
- Theory: the PDF guide, slides, the process infographic.
- Exercises and templates: the brief as a PDF and the Word template to fill in.
- Tools: links to the websites and apps used in the course.
- Further learning: articles, YouTube videos and reference Instagram accounts.
- In person: the classroom or workshop address on Google Maps.
Why it beats email or a Drive folder
- It looks good on a phone, organised, with each link's image.
- No accounts or permissions to manage: students join with the link or the QR code on the projector.
- When you add a session's material, it appears on everyone's phone.
- When the course ends, archive it and reuse the structure for the next one.
Channel or Collaborative: which to use
Channel
one person publishes, the rest view
The course Channel
- You publish lessons, exercises and resources; students can only view them.
- One Channel per course or per run.
- You can remove anyone no longer on the course.
Collaborative
everyone adds and edits
A Collaborative collection for the class
- Students add their work, examples and resources they find.
- Useful for hands-on workshops and team projects.
- The trainer sees everyone's contributions in one place.
How to set it up in five minutes
- Install Linkalia and create a collection named after the group.
- Create the categories. For example: Module 1, Module 2, Exercises, Tools, Further learning.
- Add material with Share from any app: PDFs, Word files, photos, YouTube videos, links or Google Maps locations.
- Tap the collection's name to open Collection info and, under Access, pick Channel or Collaborative.
- In the ⋮ menu, tap Share invite link: send it to the WhatsApp group or show the QR code.
Anyone without the app lands on the page to download it for free; no sign-up or email needed. As admin you see who's in the collection and can remove (and readmit) anyone.
See it in the app: Linkalia comes with the example collection “UX Design from Scratch”. Once installed it's in your library, so you can see how it looks before creating your own.
Frequently asked questions
Can I share material with people who don't use Android?
With Pro you can export the course as a web page (HTML) that opens in any browser, search included.
How big can documents be?
It depends on the plan: the free plan handles moderately sized documents and Pro raises the per-document size and total space.
Can I reuse it for the next run?
Yes. Keep the collection and open a new Channel for each group, or archive the previous run.
